Description
Apartment San Giorgio is an amazing studio apartment located in the heart of Lucca’s centro storico (historic entre). On the first floor of a building constructed in the 14th century, the apartment is reached after climbing only six steps. Entering the apartment there are another four steps to a small entrance hall.
The main room of the apartment is huge and dominated by 700 year old vaulted brickwork ceilings. The marble capitals of the supporting columns are visible at floor level. Architecturally significant, the building is classified by the heritage protection authority. Staying here is an opportunity to be a part of living history. In the room, there is a king sized antique walnut bed, bedside cabinets and a chest of drawers and wardrobe. A comfortable sofa and wall mounted, flat screen TV complete this end of the apartment.
At the other end is a compact, full kitchen and a small dining area. There is an electric cookop, microwave oven, fridge/freezer and everything else needed to prepare a home cooked meal. The other option is to visit the alimentari (delicatessen) across the street. Looking out the window, you can gaze at the extraordinary selection of fresh, mouth watering produce.
The bathroom is accessed off the entrance hall and has a fully enclosed shower, a toilet, bidet and hand basin.
The apartment is located in the heart of Lucca in via San Giorgio, just off via Fillungo. The area is tranquil and silent, especially during the evenings and at night time. There does tend to be a little bit of noise in the mornings as the city comes to life (normally commencing with the street sweepers at about 8.00am).
Apartment San Giorgio is a great studio apartment for a couple or solo traveller. It is an excellent alternative to a B&B, giving you far more space and the convenience of being able to cook at home. There is also a washing machine in the kitchen.
