Description
Villa Contessa Marianna is one of a number of buildings
which are situated on the Poggio Buonaparte, a slight rise within minutes
of the town of San Miniato. The property gains its name because it was
part of the land holdings of Buonaparte’s family of San Miniato.
The Villa was given as a gift to Maria Maddalena Buonaparte, who, in
the year 1701 married the nobleman Bonaccorsi. Later, in 1805, it passed
to the present owner’s family. Much of the historical documentation
and some of the furnishings of the period have been preserved and restored
and are displayed throughout the villa. The township of San Miniato
is located between Florence and Pisa and is roughly 30 minutes drive
from Lucca.
The Villa has undergone a complete restoration which was completed in
early 2004. It comprises six large independent Queen sized bedrooms,
each with a spacious and luxurious ensuite bathroom. Four of these are
complete with a queen sized bed and two have been set up with twin single
beds (which can be replaced with doubles on request). The furnishings
are in keeping with the high quality of the renovation. Either genuine
antiques, or the best of modern luxurious furniture fill the villa.
Every modern convenience has been considered and a stay at Villa Contessa
Marianna is guaranteed to be memorable for its luxury and sheer enjoyment
of the villa and the spectacular countryside of Tuscany visible from
most rooms.
Entering the villa one steps into the large and very grand entrance
hall. This hall runs the full length of the villa and leads to the staircase
to the second floor. The ceiling is of restored arched brickwork and
the room is very welcoming.
To the left of the entrance hall is a series of three interconnecting
rooms. These have been furnished as a study / library, a sitting room
with a cosy open fireplace and a second dining area. Each of these rooms
has an original vaulted brick ceiling which lend an air of baronial
opulence and authenticity to this remarkable building. There is also
a bathroom on this side of the building.
To the right is another series of three interconnecting rooms comprising
two sitting rooms and a dining room. These rooms also have the original
vaulted brick ceilings. The kitchen is accessed via the dining room
and also provides access to the large terrace through French doors.
It is imagined that most meals will be taken on the terrace with its
comfortable and inviting dining suite. Oriented to the east, the terrace
is a magical position to sip coffee in the morning as the day is beginning.
Lunch and dinner here are also highly recommended. Views over the surrounding
countryside and down to the large pool help encourage a day at the villa
as opposed to seeing all of Tuscany’s other attractions.
The swimming pool is complete with a hydro-massage pool and pool furniture.
It is located a short distance from the villa and is accessed through
the landscaped grounds.
Each of the bedrooms has individually controlled air conditioning and
remote satellite television. They are spacious and have antique wardrobes
or chests of drawers. Each room has been decorated in a typically Tuscan
style utilising local fabrics and furniture. Original terracotta and
timber ceilings add to the romance and the Tuscan feel.
The formal rooms downstairs are all also airconditioned / heated. And
beautifully and tastefully decorated.
