Apartment La Colonna

Description

Overlooking the square of Piazza Santa Maria Bianca, Apartment La Colonna is a modern haven in an historic city.  Loosing nothing of the charm and style of it ancient heritage, the apartment has been tastefully modernised and is equipped with every convenience desirable.  No expense has been spared on the renovation (completed in May 2006).  Many original antiques have been incorporated into the decor as well and the result is a three bedroom haven which makes it difficult to decide whether to get out and explore the city, or simply kick back and relax in the apartment.

 

Entering the building from a quiet side street, the apartment is on the ground floor (only three steps at the front entrance).  There is a small entrance hall which leads into an enormous, high ceilinged sitting room / dining room.  It is elegant and spacious, combining comfortable lounge chares and a sofa with a turn of the century side board and occasional furniture.  At the end of the room is a large, chunky, dining table just ready and waiting for many festive dinners, assuming that you choose to dine at home.  Beyond this is a huge window that floods the room with light and provides a view onto the square.  Just outside is a column (known locally as Colonna mozza).  This is a Roman column and it used to mark the winning post of the jousting competitions.

 

Off the main sitting room is the kitchen.  Modern, sleek and functional.  It is fitted out with top quality Ariston appliances and has everything that you may need.

 

There are two large bedrooms on this level.  One has a queen sized, double bed and the other has twin singles (which can be converted to a double on prior request).  Both of these have an ensuite bathroom which are a sight to behold.  They make extensive use of locally quarried white Carrara marble and local ceramics.  One has a large double “shower room” and the other has a unique step-down-in shower with a built in seat.  Truly unique bathing experiences.

 

The third bedroom is accessed via a small staircase and is a beautiful room not intended for the tallest of people.  It has an original brick archway that has been restored which may pose a problem to those over 6’ and is home to twin single beds (once again, these can be converted to a double on prior request).  There is also a luggage room / wardrobe off this room and a laundry room is at the top of the stairs before entering this room.  The third bathroom accompanying this bedroom is the largest and grandest of the three bathrooms.  It has an enormous bath built into an alcove in the wall, which also has shower facilities above it.  The bathroom itself is enormous and has twin vanities and an enormous mirror.

 

Every room has individually controlled heating and air conditioning and there is an unlimited high speed internet connection.  There is also satellite TV, a DVD player and a radio/CD player.

 

This apartment is also complete with bikes for the used of guests to explore all of Lucca's treasures.
