Apartment Chiara

Description

Apartment Chiara is a light and spacious one bedroom apartment with a huge sitting room, separate kitchen, bathroom and the most spectacular views over Piazza San Salvatore to the mountains of the Garfagnana of northern Tuscany. The apartment is located in the heart of Lucca's centro storico (historic centre) and when you walk out the front door you are surrounded by the beauty and charm of Lucca.  The apartment is elegant and stylish and has been furnished to the exacting standards of the owner in a theatrical and regal manner.  Using local antiques and gilded furniture, you will truly feel like a king or queen holidaying in this apartment.

Piazza San Salvatore is one of Lucca's true gems.  Small and slightly out of the way, it houses some of the local's favourite spots.  Often considered to be home to the best of Lucca's offerings, it is a wonderful place to be located.  Next to the front door of Apartment Chiara is Lucca's best fresh fruit and vegetable store.  Incredibly small, the store boasts an amazing array of fresh produce that is delivered fresh every morning.  A couple of doors down is Vani Vini, one of Lucca's oldest and most respected wine stores.  It has extensive and amazing cellars with vaulted brickwork ceilings brimming over with thousands of bottles of wines and spirits.  Tastings can be made through prior bookings.  Acoss the piazza, past the fresh mountain springwater spilling from the fountain of a maiden holding a pot is Restaurante Da Leo.  Truly a "must do" during a visit to Lucca.  The menues are hand written daily based on what has been procured that morning.

Apartment Chiara is located on the third floor of an ancient Palazzo.  This Palazzo was originally home to the Boccherini family.   Boccherini was a famous Lucchese composer.  The 76 steps are worth the climb when you see the amazing views from both the large picture windows.  The entire theme of the apartment is cool white.  The main colour features come in the form of the dazzling blue sky, the rich ochre colours of the surrounding buildings and the many and varied colours of the passing parade in the piazza below.   All of these can be captured from almost any spot in the apartment.

You enter the apartment via a small entrance hall from which all the rooms are located.  Moving into the sitting room, you pass the compact, stylish kitchen.  New in 2006, it features the best of timber doors and marble benchtops.  The appliances are sensational (electric oven, gas cooktop, dishwasher and rangehood) and it is a place where even the most reluctant cooks can whip up true culinary delights.

The sitting room is spacious and elegant. Extremely high ceilings add to the feeling of openness.  There is a comfortable lounge suite (sofabed) as well as an ecclectic mix of antique and ethnic furniture and designer artifacts.  There is a dining suite for six all of which continue and compliment the designer-white theme.

The bedroom is even larger than the sitting room and has the feeling of stepping back several hundred years to a true Baroque period.  A huge canopied bed, guilded mirrors and consoles create a genuine regal feel.  There is an enormous wardrobe to store everything you bring (and your purchases from via Fillungo which is only steps away).  This room is large enough to also house a smaller lounge suite, one again, gilded in true aristocratic style with glossy, satin coverings.  For those even considering work, there is a small desk, but it will be put to better use by writing postcards and describing the view.

There is a compact bathroom with a shower.  The bathroom also houses the washing machine and all your laundry requirements.

Apartment Chiara is owned by and is the principal residence of an Irish writer.  It is available for rent in 2008 from end of May until the end of October.
