Description
Sympathetically and lovingly restored by its owner, this delightful cut-stone
farmhouse, once belonged to the famous wine producing family of Frescobaldi.
Today, it enjoys the most stunning views of their castle, Nipozzano across
a panoramic patchwork of valleys, hills, cypresses, vineyards and olive
groves.
L’Amarena is bright and light filled, yet warm and cosy and very
welcoming. It is set over two levels and spaciously accommodates four
adults. The house is entered via a small front garden and the rose covered
facade gives it a most romantic appeal. The front door opens into a huge
sitting room which immediately gives you a sense of space and comfort.
It is a bright and elegantly furnished room with comfortable seating.
There is a TV, stereo and a magnificent open fire. Spacious and airy,
this room enjoys breathtaking views over the surrounding countryside.
Off to one side of the sitting room is a fully equipped kitchen that would
please most chefs. It has a gas cook-top, oven, fridge/freezer, dishwasher
and a vast array of dishes and cooking utensils. There is a table and
chairs in the kitchen for less formal dining and also a large antique
dining suite in the main sitting room. One of the most beautiful features
of the kitchen is the magnificent stone sink. It has been hewn from a
single piece of stone and is the trademark of a authentic Tuscan kitchen.
To the other side of the sitting room, there is the main bedroom which
has a large double bed and an adjoining bathroom with a bath and shower.
On the ground floor, there is also a separate utility room which houses
a washing machine and all the laundry and ironing facilities.
A flight of stairs leads to a mezzanine gallery which has full length
bookshelves lined with books that you are welcome to read during your
stay. Let’s hope that you’ve brushed up on your Italian before
you arrive. On this level there is a second bedroom with an en-suite bathroom,
also with a bath and shower.
There is private parking on site as well as a private garden area with
a patio which is furnished with dining al fresco in mind. It is perfect
to linger here for late, long dinners as the sun sets and the beautiful
Tuscan twilight slowly descends.
Whilst there is every modern convenience at L’Amarena, great care
has been taken to maintain the décor and fittings appropriate to
the traditional Tuscan style such as the locally produced terracotta floors,
timber beamed ceilings, pictures and local artefacts.
L’Amarena is located on three kilometres from Pontassieve, a local
town, the view of which stretches before you as you stand in the front
door and garden. Pontassieve offers a great range of shops, banks, butchers,
hairdressers, bars, newsagents and a post office. There is a large weekly
market every Wednesday. Catching a train from here into Florence is a
breeze and the non-stop journey is only 20 minutes.
Within a lovely 15 minute walk is the village of Nipozzano, with its castle
and wine cellars, which you can visit and enjoy tasting the local products.
Easily accessible to the areas of Chianti Classico, L’Amarena is
on twenty minutes drive to the vineyards of Ruffina, Poggio Reale and
other well know wine makers along the wine trail. For the energetic guests,
there are many well marked walking trails within a few minutes reach.
For the serious shopper, the designer fashion outlet stores a just a short
drive away at “The Mall”. Greatly reduced prices and outstanding
bargains can be found at the houses of Gucci, Armani, Valention, YSL,
Ferragamo, Todds, and Dolce & Gabbana. |
